Chapter Seven: Stacey

In the hideout of The Hi-Hats, Chatterbox was already painting his next grotesque ?masterpiece.? This one seemed to parody the Mona Lisa although she had a fat, clown face with a gruesome smile and a small mop top. In fact, Chatterbox had simply painted his own head over the top. Chatterbox was a talented artist, but he did not have an eye for it. His entire gallery had once been destroyed by several Warriors but in next to no time at all, he had raised a second, even more nightmarish one. For many years, the Warlord had been jealous of Scopes and his successor Sculptor, although he had seen neither of them for quite a while now. He heard Sculptor was involved in some contest, but that was more or less it. Those artists kept their heads down. Chatterbox hardly cared, it just left more street for him to use as a canvas.

A Hi-Hat lieutenant approached him.
?Chatterbox,? he said with a salute, ?I got bad news.?
?What k-k-k-kind of b-b-b-bad news?? Chatterbox inquired, already getting the feeling that he wasn?t going to like it.
?Crackerjack, he got wasted,? the lieutenant explained, a little bit fearful.
?WHAT?!? Chatterbox threw his palette and brush to the floor in fury.
?It was The Warriors.?
?Warriors?those d-d-d-damn Warriors!?
?Our scout said there were two kids with them.?
?K-k-k-kids?? Chatterbox asked, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. A twisted smile grew on his face. ?Of course. Good w-w-w-work lieutenant, you can go.?

The lieutenant walked out of the gallery, to the safety of his fellow soldiers. Chatterbox walked up a flight of wooden stairs and entered his private bedroom. He then strode across the room, grabbed the scratched handle of the door and opened it. Inside, bound and gagged, was the mother of Frankie and Sally. She was not very old, a young mother in all honesty. At 37, she was still very, very attractive. She had a shapely body, tanned skin, big blue eyes and silky, blonde hair that reached down to her lower back. She was dressed in a red belly-top, denim shorts and sandals. Her name was Stacey. Chatterbox had abducted her for his disgusting fetish the day before. The porn magazines were not enough for him anymore, he wanted the real thing. Yes, she was a couple of years older, but she was as hot as hellfire.

?Hello there my p-p-p-pretty,? he sneered, licking his lips. Stacey whimpered, looking at him with watery eyes. She wanted to scream but the tight gag put a stop to that. The clown caressed her cheek and bent down, licking her neck. Stacey squeezed her eyes shut, both repulsed and afraid. Chatterbox reached towards the zip of his jeans but was interrupted by shouting outside. He snarled and turned around.
?What the f-f-f-f???

Before he could finish his sentence, a Hi-Hat was thrown through the door and crashed hard into him. Both of them collapsed to the floor, dazed. Stacey squeaked in astonishment. Ajax stepped into the bedroom, cracking his knuckles. With a smirk on his face, the heavy muscle soldier walked towards the cupboard. Chatterbox pushed the unconscious Hi-Hat off of him and stood up.
?I?ll make you p-p-p-pay for this, Warrior!? he screamed.
?Aw shut up ya stutterin? wimp,? Ajax retorted.
?You?re dead meat!?
?Bring it Fat Boy!?

Chatterbox roared and threw his huge bulk at Ajax, hoping to pin him down. Ajax skilfully dodged out of the way and planted his boot into the clown?s side. Chatterbox staggered and landed on his bed. Ajax then jumped into the air and attacked with a dragon kick. The force of the impact snapped the box and split the mattress. A storm of coloured feathers flew in all directions, blinding both of them. Chatterbox threw his fists wildly but Ajax was somehow able to dodge the attacks until they were out in the gallery. Ajax grabbed Chatterbox by the shoulders and with all his might, threw him into an unfinished statue. The art piece crumbled and the Hi-Hat Warlord now lay barely semi-conscious, a large cut open on his forehead.

Ajax ran back into the room and began to untie Stacey?s ropes. He removed the gag last of all.
?Who are you?? she asked shakily.
?My name?s Ajax,? he replied. ?I?m here to save you. Your kids are waitin?.?
?Frankie and Sally are okay??
?Yep, they?re right outside. My friends will hold off these other clowns while we make a break for it. Come on!?

Ajax finished untying Stacey and grabbed her wrist, leading her out of the bedroom and then out of the gallery. Aside from Rodent, The Warriors were keeping The Hi-Hats busy. The newbloods had sustained quite a collection of bruises and cuts but they were holding their own. Ajax led them out of the building and down the flight of stairs. They met up with Rodent in the street.

?Mommy!? Sally threw herself at her mother. Stacey hugged her tightly.
?Mom!? Frankie hugged her waist. The family began to cry with happiness. Stacey looked at their saviours.
?Thank you so much,? she sniffled. ?I?m going to tell my friends?that you Warriors are a good bunch.?
?We?d rather you didn?t,? Cannon chuckled. ?This isn?t our usual line of work, but just remember, we always watch our friends? backs, and you three qualify. If it?s not too bold, I think your kids have good soldier material. They?ve been really brave throughout this whole ordeal. Rodent, call ?em a cab, we?ll pay the driver.?

Stacey kneeled down and hugged her children, closing her eyes. The Warriors smiled, looking at each other. Even Ajax felt warm inside. He was never for all this sappy stuff, but reuniting a family made him feel good about himself. He wanted to return to Coney Island and be among The Warriors, to be among his own family.

After the cab was called and the family were heading home, Ajax draped his arms around Cherub and Tiger.
?You guys are so unpredictable,? he addressed all the newbloods. ?Come on, let?s go home.?

Epilogue: Returning Home

December 15th, 1980. 6:00AM. Coney Island.

To say Swan was angry would be a gross misconception. The Warlord was downright furious. When he saw the seven newbloods walking towards the hideout, it took all his willpower just to keep his temper. Mercy and Snow were standing on either side of him. When he saw Ajax come around the corner, Swan was surprised but he managed not to show it. Snow however, was overjoyed to see his friend. The two soldiers walked towards each other.

?Good to see you Ajax,? said Snow.
?Hey, ya can?t keep me down,? Ajax chuckled, giving a mock salute. The two punched each other on the fist. Swan glared at the old soldier, and he noticed this. Ajax walked towards the Warlord.
?I see you still ain?t got that stick outta your butt.?
?Why are you here Ajax??
?Because this gang is all I got to come back to.?
?I wouldn?t be surprised if you put those newbloods up to this.?
?I saved their asses from The Hi-Hats, those newbloods were doin? something pretty brave, ya know.?
?They should have told us they were going somewhere, we could send some heavy muscle to back them up,? said Swan. He then looked at the newbloods. ?Get inside. Now.?

The seven marched into the hideout. They were dreading any possible punishment from Swan, but they held their heads high. They were proud of what they did. Cherub looked at Tiger. He had bruises up his arms and on his chest and a cut on his cheek. She gently laced her fingers with his as they stepped into the hideout. Tiger looked down at their hands and a blush crept onto his face.

A while later, all seven had been chewed out by Swan and were keeping to themselves, their spirits now a little bit low. Only a little. Tiger and Cherub were sitting together on the roof of the hideout, watching the sunrise together. Their hands were linked once again. Tiger pushed up the peak of his cap with his free thumb and looked at Cherub.
?What we did. That was dangerous. But it made me feel good.?
?Me to, Tiger.?
The two newbloods looked at each other, lost in their gazes.
?Cherub, I??
?Don?t say it Tiger.?
Their eyes closed as she pressed her lips against his softly. Cherub removed Tiger?s cap so she could run her fingers through his smooth, auburn hair. Tiger wrapped his arms completely around her, holding her close.

Down on the beach, Swan, Snow, Ajax and Rembrandt were standing together, also watching the sunrise. Ajax was once more wearing a Warriors waistcoat.
?Glad to see you back in those colours, man,? said Snow.
?What?s with you Snow?? Ajax chuckled. ?You goin? faggot??
?No way. We got into this gang together is all.?

Ajax was silent for a few moments then a sly smile crossed his face.

?Yep. You?re goin? faggot.?

I'm glad you all liked this. It was only a practise to be honest but I think it's shown I'm capable with writing in this particular genre. My next project will feature one of the unused gangs, but I'm not saying which because you'll find out very soon.
