Some remakes are pretty good among the ones I happen to like are:
Ben-Hur (1959) w/Charleton Heston (original 1925)
Three Men and a Baby (1987) (original: Three Men and a Cradle 1985)
Pale Rider (1985) (original: Shane 1953 -I liked this one too)
Bodyguard from Beijing (1994) w/Jet Li (original "The Bodyguard" w/Kevin Costner 1992)
A Fistful of Dollars (1964) w/ Clint Eastwood (original: "Yojimbo" 1961) Later reconstituted in 1996 with Bruce Willis in "Last Man Standing"

I love Three Men and a Baby. Did you notice a kid in the background of the aapartment in the scene where Jack is talking to his mother.
I think the Planet of the Apes remake was also good.

I have not seen the kid when watching the film, but have seen stills and captures of the film online.
