Tony Scott on remake

Post by Marlboroprojects »

Why did I know this was going to happen. At least this will put all the "Whose going to play Swan" & "What will the new Furies look like" threads to rest.

Tony Scott obviously wants to put his own stamp on the movie.

Taking The Warriors out of NY is what really pisses me off. Just think, I was pissed when Fox's script moved them from Coney Island to Battery Park. Now we go all the way to L.A. ](*,)

I can't say I dislike the idea about using the Bloods, Crips, and other real gangs, since it's supposed to be set in the present, but guess what Tony, we have them in New York too.

What I can't imagine is how having known shooting gangs without guns is gonna play out. (when was the last time you heard of the Bloods or Crips beating someone up or using Matrix style martial arts moves :-k )

I also wanna know how he intends to get all these gangs in one place without having them kill each other. Oh wait, He's gonna pretend he's Cyrus and call a big truce in L.A.

This has all the makings of a disaster. I really hope he was drunk or high or whatever when he gave this interview, cause if not he's clearly nuts. At least now we see that he doesn't give a crap about either the original movie or us fans.

Unless things change, it looks like I'll pass on this crapfest.

he seems to be keeping it in the realm of reality by hiring legit gangs and as for the change it kinda makes sense since gang activity is more heavy in LA then in new york now a days

"If" the line "Warriors, come out to play" makes it into the movie? The man is going to butcher this remake! I can see how he wants to make it more relevant with modern times, but he's taking out everything that made this movie stand out and become great. His version will be like every other gang picture out there, there won't be any outlandish characters or crazy plots to make it hold up to the standards the original set. This remake will only get lost in the 2006 shuffle. :?

Tony Scott on remake

after reading that article it sounds like a whole new movie with little resemblance to the original.

"It will be the Bloods, the Crips, the Vietnamese, the 18th Street [Gang], all the boys. It will be all the major gangs in Los Angeles, and we're going to try to get them to stand on the Long Beach Bridge."

that right there is just :o

Tony Scott on remake

I am disappointed but not surprised. They should really stop calling this a remake and not call it The Warriors. They can say influenced by The Warriors but it's not the same as a remake. I cannot believe it is not set in NYC!!?? :?

I will not see it. I would rather watch hope floats. I'll probably bring my laptop + lcd projector and watch the Warriors outside the theater.

I knew it

I have to agree with Gonz. I am not a bit surprise, I have been against this from the first moment I read and/or heard about it. I knew they were going to pull something like this. All I have to say is; I can't wait to see it flop.

I wonder what the cast and crew from the original think about this "remake", all the work they put into the Warriors and having Scott come along to do his movie and completely ignoring everything they did to make the first successful.

Tony Scott on remake

I can't get the link to work, but THanks MBProjects--I got the gist from your post.

I figured when I first read his part of the LOOK interview, it sounded like he was taking it to CAL. but here, no one was of that opinion, so I can't say I am surprised.
I really think that this is not going to be a remake so much as a copy cat storyline, with totally different everything.
I always got the feeling he was not going to use the same characters anyway.

ANd I did not get the feeling that Tony Scott was going to use anything much from the actual movie script, there was an undercurrent he was writing his own or getting someone to write him one--because he wasn't going to give Walter Hill credit for writing TS's movie.( this impression is my own-but it seemed obvious to me, when I was reading the whole article)

He said in LOOK that the only thing his movie would have in common with WH's was that there would be a gang far from home who would have to fight their way back. So I can't say that finding out that is what is going to happen surprises me in the least. BEsides--now I have a good reason not to get too excited about the "remake" cause it will never stack up to the original, and I can be smug about that.

Actually both WAlter Hill, and Michael Beck said they don't care two hoots about if they do a remake or not. IT doesn't affect them.
They each (in their own way) said that They made their movie, and if someone else wanted a shot, have at it. they weren't going to get involved, and it didn't make any difference, be
cause they weren't sure it could be "remade" with the same feel anyway.

(Looks like they were right!!)

If they wanna do this, FINE. Just don't call it "The Warriors"!
I mean, using real gangs and their real names, how do "The Warriors" fit in? Does it now mean every gang member? And what are they gonna do, ride the BUS "all the way back to compton..."?
And they can't even say what John Carpenter and Tim Burton said about their remakes of "The Thing" and "Charlie..." that they are faithful to the original book. THAT might have been cool, but this? UGH!!!!!!

Hope it tanks hard or never gets made.

:(
I'll show you how I play
