At the end of the movie when they are walking off the beach do you think after the movie that swan and mercy got married.

No i dont think they did.
I think they went off from the beach, had a fling, then seperated.
Reality isnt like is it in the movies is it really?
Take a girl like Mercy, the neighbourhood bycicle, i didnt think she was ever gonna settle down with swan.
she was just in it for the action i think.

I dont think this was the kind of thing that could end in a fairytale wedding.

Thats an interesting question.  Believe it or not, I actually didn't take it seriously.  Now I am not going to say that their lives became messed up, but yet maybe they took seperate paths in life.  Maybe at first they appreciated eachothers essence, but than realized that they had different goals.  I am not gonna say if their lives thurned out good(i'd like to think so), but maybe they both had different ideals that made them split up.  Who knows, maybe the same goes for the rest of the gang.  It doesn't mean this is bad, but sometimes these things happen in life.

They were definitely married.  They had as good a chance as anybody.  Life is good.

Isn't that what the whole ending was about? All those scenes at the end point to them ending up together. They both realized their lives were in the toilet, Swan really looked like he loved her, and wasn't it supposed to have one of those ending where the lead guy gets the girl?

I don't see how they could not end up together.

I'm almost 100% sure that Mercy and Swan got married you could really see true love between the two espically with them both surviving through the hell night.

I think that they spend a lot time together and after few months Mercy will tell to Swan that she needs of her own spaces and that he is only a good friend...........maybe.

True, they did look in love.

BUT

People can be in love, then still seperate after a liitle while.

My mum loved my dad. My dad loved my mum, they obviously did because they had 2 children together.
However they split up.

Can anybody see my point?

I think they stayed together for a while, I don't think she was ready to change her ways though.

Yeah, I'm going with the two of them tying the knot.

I always looked at Swan's line, "...maybe I'll just take off", to mean that the road home that night was the straw that broke the camels back.  He probably wouldn't have admitted it, but I think he was looking for an excuse to leave thug life behind and he got his wish - big time.

Mercy seemed to be looking for a way out too and found a kindred spirit in Swan.  He showed on the train that he was willing to accept her and all her faults when they see the prom couples and he doesn't let her primp.

Now that they have the support of another person equally desperate to escape, I see them moving out of Coney and living out a typical blue-collar 80's life.

i dig what you're saying and it makes sense... see, the movie doesn't give much clues about what will happen after the movie so it's hard to predict...so what we predict may not happen and what me don't predict may happen..

what i think is that they may not get married cause mercy may just like swan for a limited time...

but on another view, they might get married because the movie kinda clued that both of them had feeliungs for each other and they may last long...

so, the conclusion, i don't really know...hard to predict and guess...

Are you guys kidding? Swan already looked like he had enough of that grubby girl.
I bet the moment the credits finished rolling he gave her some change to get back home.
He was going to 'take off' I bet without her.
