"Cyrus The Great".

I just wanted to take the time out, and write a little about myknowledge of the realy Cyrus, and where Walter Hill got his inspiration on such an amazing character.
Cyrus must have been an unusual ruler for his time, a man who demonstrated considerable wisdom and compassion in the conquest and organization of his empire. In 550 B.C. Cyrus established Persian control over Media, making it the first Persian province. He defeated Lydian kingdom in Western Asian Minor, and Greek City States that had been established on the Ionian coast. Cyrus subduid the eastern part of the Iranan plateau, Sogdia, and even western India. He entered Mesopatamia in 539 and captured Babylonia, but his treatment was of remarkable restraint and wisdom. He won Babylonian loyalty and issued an edict permitting Jews, who had been brought to Babylon in 6th Century B.C. to eturn to Jerusalem with their sacred temple objects and to rebuild their temple as well. From 538 to 530 B.C. Cyrus consolidated his empire. He constructed forts, especially in the northeast, to protect against nomadic incursions. In 530 B.C. he marched from Sogdia into the territory of the Massagetae, where he wa killed in battle.
Cyrus had a genuine respect for anciebt civilizations-in building his pakaces, he made use of Assyrian, Babylonian, Egyptian, and Lydian practices. Cyrus believed that he was creating a "World Empire" that included peoples who had ancient and venerable traditions and institutions. His son Cambyses II assumed power as the king, but thats another story...
My point is, this is how the character of Cyrus was creatd, and although he was a conquerer, he was also a man who had an understanding of humanity, and diiferent aspects of life. A man, who appreciated the meaning of life.
