any of you ppl know why swan gave mercy the flower

When he said "I hate seein' anything go to waste." He was talking about the flowers, and I think maybe their lives too. I'm really bad at explaining these kind of things, maybe adam88 can help you out.  ;)

I think YOU nailed it trixter468.  Not long afterwards, he says "Maybe I'll just take off" and is looking directly at her, almost stating "Want to come?" with his eyes.  It's a great moment.  Nice job.

Well I look at it as Swan seeing the bigger picture of things.  In a world were guys like Swan try to make an honest living for themselves they tend to feel that the lives they used to live are not working.  So in order to survive and hopefully find a new purpose and calling in life, Swan joined the gang realm.  Over time it is possible that Swan might have forgot the man he used to be.  A man who had a sense of faith, hope, and pride in his existence.  He felt that his journey in the world of gangs would seek out a new reflection on life, but it became a cold reality that he knew he was not meant to escape just yet.. He became a shell of a man, who just wondered looking for answers he could not find.  although he had his companions, something was missing, thus made Swan a weary soul.  When Mercy came into his life, she opened his heart, and he found the guy he used to be, and a new lease on life.  So giving her the flower was a symbol of saying, he is now ready for his next step in life.  He may not know what it is, but at least he can walk into a future with a bold new perspective on his life.

I think he liked mercy and he felt that they were both wasting thier lives.  So it was a symbolic gesture of change and also that he liked her.

Swan wants to hidden himself behind his line "I hate seein' anything go to waste"  but, I think, the truth is that he's falling in love.

Hiding that fact he loves Mercy by saying " I just hate seein things go to waste".  Yeah that sums it up, the next line he says that "maybe I should just take off", Mercy indicates she loves to travel, which he questions, sh e responds honestly that "I've never been anywhere, but I know I'd like it".

They're flirting and now comfortable with one another, accept  one another, and ready to move on.  And like ADAM88 poingantly details, SWAN is likely looking aat moving on, rediscovering that his life is going nowhere fast as a gang member.

Mercy is tough, defend herself, and has opened her heart to Swan, and he wants them to be together.

It would be nice to know if Walter Hill would have made a Warriors 2 - and ask where he would picture Swan and Mercy right after the beach fight.

He must of been a streetboy, but he new that flowers are one of the most beatiful things you can give to a woman and get a melting reaction.

Like he says ' he hates seeing anything go to waste' And maybe he felt bad early for being mean to her.

yea he hates thens going to waste plus the moment he gave her the flower  you could tell in the moment he loved her plus maybe he was trying to forget what happed losing warriors /being attacked/ maybe the flower represents a new start to life. thats what i reckon

i thought it was part of showing the contrast of the warriors with the upper class kids. the prom kids had discarded something that they took for granted but that swan found beauty in, the same way that he had found beauty in mercy when others just saw her as a ho or dirty, lower class girl.
