I read this thing that robert de niro was asked to play Cowboy who the creators wanted to be a really old dude like 40's or 30' old thus giving the name cowboy meaning he's been around the bush but he actually thought about taking the role for the old movie but he finally decided to not do it.
So they hired the dude that plays cowboy now and he isn't old because they had less time to find a older actor to take the part so they changed it around making cowboy young.
Still it would have been coll to see Robert De niro fight along side the warriors.

No doubt Robert DeNiro would have done a good job playing "Cowboy." However, I think the entire film would probably have centered around him, since he was already a well-established star. Because the film was based on a group of unknowns at the time, actors like James Remar got an opportunity to shine.
adios,

Exactly. Take the femalr cop in the park for example. She had a very succesful career after the Warriors.

Gosh, I don't know about this. The character is not of DeNiro's caliber. I am thinking more of Jeff Conaway.

It's weird to think how different things would have been had De Niro accepted the role.

Cowboy surely would have been the most prominent Warrior and taken over from Cleon instead of Swan. De Niro would've been the oldest actor playing a Warrior, I think he was about 35 when it was shot, he's a full ten years older than James Remar. As a method actor he probably would have joined a real gang six months prior to shooting for research.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Rubbish! By the time The Warriors was made De Niro was a big star- The Warriors is all unknown actors. He would have stuck out like a sore thumb.
I've never heard this rumour before but I'm fairly certain its crap.

No way he could do the part. They would have to change tons of the scenes, theres no wau he could keep up with the rest of them in the long run scenes.

Well if De Niro was in the film I think it would have been totally different than The Warriors as we know it. I'm glad they went with unknowns.
In one article linked from this site Terri Michos mentions that Tony Danza was supposed to be Vermin. *shudders* IMO that is 10 times worse than De Niro...
