Groups within the Gang

Takeing a cue from what I've read in studies on gangs. There always are subgroups within the gangs whole. People who will trust and hang around some instead of others. In the Warriors movie did anyone pick up that in the 8 that left the conclave there were two distinct groups.
Ajax, Cowboy, Vermin, and COchise seemd more buddy buddy, whereas
Swan, Fox, and Snow seemed closer to each other than the ones mentioned above. I exclude Rembrandt because the feeling I got was they all looked after him and he wasn't really apart of any subgroup yet.

Yes all the gangs have their group, mayority of them are soldiers who bop and follow the commands of the leaders, the second, higher, group are the ones that hang around with the leader and dont put in as much work as the soldiers(because they are trusted well enough). One group that was really concentrated in the warriors gang, and didnt joke around were Swan, snow, fox. The second group consisted of the guys that wanted to have fun and they were cochise, cowboy and vermin. Ajax in my opinion doesnt fit in these groups, he is the brainless brawler type that just join a gang because they like to waste some heads. Rembrandt is the soft one in the gang, who doesnt fit in a category also.

Here's the way I see it. I think that Ajax was much feared and respected, and some of the others enjoyed being around him because of his amusingly smart attitude, and the fact that they felt safe with him. Cochise is the other one of this type, and it's to be expected that two heavy brawlers are gonna be buddies, hence the relationship between him and Ajax which is hinted on. I also pick up the fact that Cowboy and Ajax are particularly good friends, as Ajax seems to seriously look out for him. He could have left him in the dust during the Furies chase, and no one would have missed him, or even asked probably. But no, he ran right along in stride with him, and even gave him an occasional slap in the back for support and encouragement. He looked at Cowboy more than he did the rough road ahead, which, being in a park, is gonna be up and down. Swan, Cleon, and the Fox I think were also close. It seemed to me that in the opening montage, that Swan was being consoled by Cleon on his worries. I also got the feeling that Swan was the only one who cared about every individual's well-being, particularly Rembrandt, I don't think anyone liked him, he appeared as a newblood to me (NOT based on the game, based on what I saw BEFORE the game). I also believe that everyone was pretty annoyed with Vermin, and didn't much like him, but if he got along with anyone at all, it was Cochise. Snow seemed to me to be a true loner, who was more or less in the shadows watching everyone's back but his own, and just waiting for the right time to do what he needed to do. He's the kinda guy who likes to make sure everybody's safe, and I guess he figured since they already took out a buncha Furies, Swan would be ok on his own, but somehow, something seemed wrong about the Ajax situation. I think he goes where he feels like there's more trouble.

It's not so obvious in the movie, but in the original script, Fox and Rembrandt are best friends. I guess that's why Rembrandt looks to Fox for advice when Swan orders him to keep watch in the graveyard. In the beginning of the movie, it looks like Cowboy and Rembrandt are very good friends as well, maybe because they're the two younger members.

It did seem to me that Ajax seemed to care quite a bit about Cowboy. When Cowboy said he couldn't go on, during the Furies chase, Ajax asked him is he was
sure. And
then, when Cowboy said he was, Ajax started busting heads.
I think everyone looked at Rembrant as a kind of younger brother, too. Someone to tease, but to take care of, too.
Cochise didn't seem all
that close with Ajax. It seemed more like they had a passing knowledge of each other, and would talk periodically. I think they would trust each other. But I don't think that they were exactly friends.
The Fox seemed close with Swan, in that Swan seemed to trust him a little more than the others. But, as the Fox died, I didn't have a good chance to analyze his relationship with each of the others.
Swan did seem to feel responsible for everyone. In one of the deleted scenes, he does say "I should have made him come with us," in connection with Ajax getting arrested. He looked like he felt responsible, in some way. I think he did like Ajax, in some small way, as a friend. Even though Ajax was about ready to take the title of Warlord from him in the park by force.
Snow... Snow is a lone wolf. I know what its like, because I'm the same way. I don't talk to people, and I keep in the shadows, or at the back of the group, a lot. So I think he's the character I identify most with, on a personal level, even though because of this, we don't know too much about his character. ( Who cares? I know what its like, being a loner. I respect Snow. )
Vermin, though, seemed to be a little outcast... I mean, they did accept him as a member of the gang, but he seemed to not really have their
friendship, which is a little saddening. I watch human behavior, all the time. I said I'm a loner, and this is because I would rather live vicariously (through watching others), than to actually be a part of this world. (Don't get me wrong. When I believe in something, I'll bop with the rest! But for the most part, I watch the world.) I've seen people like Vermin, who they do have a group, but they are still a little outcast. He did, though, seem to get along with Cochise, a little, and so maybe there is hope for him.
Cowboy was so sweet... I think he is the kind of guy who can be friends with anyone. And I think he was not only close with Ajax, but with Snow. I don't know why, but he seems like the kind of guy who could get past Snow's loner personality, and actually get him to talk. Even if its not really shown in the movie, I do believe the two of them might actually be good friends.
This is all I'm going to say, because if I keep going, I think I'm going to go a little crazy.

One of the things that I noticed in the movie that hinted at Cowboy and Ajax being close was in the park when Ajax was challenging Swan. Vermin seemed to be sort of lightly telling him to back off, Snow just got behind Ajax and seemed ready to pounce if he made a move toward Swan. ( This is why I kind of think that Swan and Snow hung out). And Cochise had a threaening tone in his voice, but he wasn't really direct with Ajax. However,Cowboy has a sort of angry edge to his voice and directly tells AJax to relax. Which is odd seeing that Cowboy isn't a heavy brawler like Ajax or COchise, and I can't really see Ajax taking too kindly to being told to do something unless he was close to that person.

I think Cleon picked the 8 guys he did on purpose to not have one big clique going to the conclave. It was better to have diverse guys who maybe were even not that close to each other except for being Warriors. If he would have picked a bunch of guys that always hung out together it would have been a problem of control too if all of them went againt Cleon's authority for some reason.

We didn't see enough of Cleon to judge who his closest friends might be, but I'd say that as the Warchief, he's friends with all of them. In one of the deleted scenes, he tells the others that out of 120 gang members, he chose them to come with him to represent the Warriors at Cyrus's meeting.

I agree with most of you, in that cowboy did seem to get along more with the jokesters in the group than the serious ones. but to me, cowboy didnt really come off as a jokester himself. maybe he was more lighthearted than swan, snow, and fox, but he was nowhere near as childlike or immature (in a joking manner) as ajax, vermin, or cochise.

I am sure that there are sub groups within the gangs. I mean if you look at yourselves and the companions around you, you will realize thats its like this amongst your own friends. Did you ever notice how whenever you talk to a certain group of friends at work or at a university, you may ocassionaly mention another group of friends. You all seem to know and feel comfortable around each other, but yet you split up into a seperate group. Its not that you feel ambarrassed or around those friend its just that some people have different interests. You ever notice how you seem to be the person that understands how that person is, but the won't hang out with the other person that you understand. Or maybe they have other ruteins with friends you are not used to. So its not that you reject one another, its that everyone adapts better to certain people. Thats why I believe there are sub groups amongst these gangs.

Great topic!
I agree with most of the grouping though I would place Cowboy with Swans gruop, personally I just think he fits better with them.
Cleon would definately be in Swans group as well if it was a choice between his and Ajax's.
