ATONOMY OF A CULT CLASSIC

Post by warlord jp »

I found this in a page of gameinformer, issue number 145, its long so bare with me.
ATONOMY OF A CULT CLASSIC
While the warriors was by no means a box office blockbuster, the film has maintained a special place in movie history, making it one of the most beloved cult fims of all time.  Although not shocking by todays standars, in its day THE WARRIORS was a frank and controversial look at the gang lifestyle, years before like movies COLORS and BOYZ IN THE HOOD brought street life into the mainstream. Through its depiction of the emerging hip hop culture and memorable consuming, THE WARRIORS has become an enduring part of movie history. Although the influience of the waririors can be felt through popular culture, from punk bands like the Baseball furies to michael jacksons iconic beat it video, the films continiung popularity is largely due to a generation of hip hop arists who have referenced, sampled, and quote the film in video and in songs. From ol dirty bastards memorable exclamation of Warriors come out to play on the classic Enter the 36 CHAMBERS to puff daddy bottle clicking apperance at the beggining of the video FLAVA IN YEA EAR video, rap artists have consistently shown their love for the film. Besides scarface, probably no other movie has been refernced in hip hop as many times as the warriors. The love continues to this day, as evidence in the diplomats recent hit video for Crunk musik, where members of the group apper in Baseball furies makeup. However, the cult of the warriors extends far beyond hip hop. Dozens of fan sites( COUGH warriorsmovie.co.uk IS THE BEST ONE) for the movie exist around the world. The film is often the theme of halloween partys.
So what do you guys think about all this cool info?

YES! The Warriors gets mad respect, and deserves it. It's about time it started getting the recognition it deserves. And great find, by the way.
Nobody lip off... nobody get hot.

I agree with Warrior Swan because although it wasn't the best film out they did brilliant with their money. Another music video is Fight music bt d12 where a man is stood on a car doing a take off of Cyrus' speech and he says pop artists and rock stars for gangs. Then they get chased by scary looking people (really do freak me out) on trains and things.
