Fox was originally meant to be one of the main characters. He wasn't Warchief in the original script, but he did survive, and it was him rather than Swan who got off with Mercy. We also learned his real name, Francis Conroy.thurman_furies_elite wrote: I was reading the original script and instead of swan vermin snow cowboy cochise and rem survived it was swan rem cowboy vermin and snow but fox was the one giving orders from when swan was captured by the dingos and cochise was killed by the furies and dumped in the river can someone help me out? thanks in advance boppers
In the DVD, Walter Hill says this was changed because they felt that Tom Waites (Fox) and Deborah Van Valkenburg (Mercy) had zero chemistry, but that there was an unscripted chemistry between Deborah and Michael Beck (Swan), so it was changed. This could be what made Waites walk out of filming, I'd be annoyed too if my part was cut like this.
Vermin was also killed in the original script, shot dead by the Lizzies.

If Vermin were to die I would not have wanted it to be with the Lizzies. A noble way seems more like Vermin. Like taking the gunshot in front of Swan, instead of Swan throwing his knife in Luther's arm. Or I could see him getting a bunch of Punks off of Mercy in the subway station bathroom, and getting stomped to death. Either way, I see him as a noble type.eliminator1 wrote:Fox was originally meant to be one of the main characters. If you read the original script, Vermin wasn't as likeable as the Vermin we know and love, he was still whiny, but seemed like more of a jerk. The change in his character, and having him lighten up the mood could be what kept him alive for the final film.Jigsaw wrote:If Vermin were to die I would not have wanted it to be with the Lizzies. Up-to the point he gets thrown under the train he's is just about the main character along with Swan.eliminator1 wrote:Fox was originally meant to be one of the main characters. He is in it so much because he is prominent and as much as Walter wanted to get rid of him he would have had to re-shoot the entire film.
Imagine how much extra tape exists with the Fox up-to that point that Walter scrapped

Just my opinion

Re: Fox warcheif?
To answer the actual question... Fox was second in command behind Swan, if you notice, he's even giving orders in the beginning, like when Swan tells Rem to check out the graveyard, and he's whining. It's hard to see, because of framing, but the Fox gives him a signal, and I think even kinda shoves him. And when they're waiting for the train just before the Turnbulls come by, the Fox was basically telling Ajax to shut the hell up. And as for Snow, when he takes command, I don't know if he just did and the others accepted it, or if it was actual chain of command. That I'm confused about.
Nobody lip off... nobody get hot.

Re: Fox warcheif?
there is something wron wiv ure script
Re: Fox warcheif?
I wouldn't say Fox was 'War Chief', or second in command behind Swan for that matter... I just think the others looked / listened to him because they knew he was smart and had the gangs best interests at heart... In the graveyard, when Rembrandt complains after being told to look around, the look he gives Fox is almost asking: "You're the brains, is this a good idea?", and the nod that Fox gives back is his answer...
Every gang needs a Fox!
And Truro Warrior... what would be wrong with the script?

Hold your tongue...
Re: Fox warcheif?
If the original script was actually filmed as it was written I do not think that Fox was offically in the command chain to become Warchief if something happened to Swan he just stepped up and was listened to. It would be very hard to scout and lead at the same time cause wouldn't that require being in 2 places at the same time?

Re: Fox warcheif?
This is what happened in the original script
1.Vermin dies from being shot by the Lizzies.
2.Swan would be held hostage by a gay gang, but later escape.
3.And Fox would make it.

Re: Fox warcheif?
I think in the movie script fox was always right behind swan because swan trusted him the most, swan was the type of guy who looked for brains, not muscle. I also think there was a conection between fox and swan, they understanded it each other pretty well.. something i cant explain very well. Fox would have made a good warchief like in the original script described him, but warriors would have to watch his back so he woudnt get wreck that easily.
