Warriors are like nerds?

In the movie of the warriors ultimate directors cut they said in an interview that the warriors almost looked like nerds compared to other gangs.(furies,punks)
What do you think about this?
   
Even though ajax was the only real loud one(the one that acted though), i dont think the warriors looked like nerds compared to other gangs. I think the warriors looked solid, and when the time came instead of using words like ajax they used their muscle to prove their tough.

I don't think he meant nerds as in a loser kind of way.  I think he meant in a more of an underdog sense.  I agree with you, they actually looked pretty solid and disciplined for a small time clique.  I guess compared to other gangs, they were probably the most sane(thats a better word for it).  They probably take life as it is instead of stressing over a more dominant and power hungry path of life, but more of a family and learning experence kind of gang.  There more of the type of gang that says "theres us and than theres the rest of the world" There just the guys trying to survive in a crazy and confusing world.  So that makes them the underdogs.  So I think he meant on more of a philisophycal point of view.

We saw mostly gangs at their bases, on their own turf, packed.
I don't see the Warriors as nerds at their base.
When you enter turf that isn't yours and you will appear the underdog.....but this is not always the true.

I think plenty of gangs at Coney would have been uncertain...the underdog......nerdy.

No, you want nerds, look at the Fedora hat wearing gang and the dudes in mesh tops during the Nowhere to Run sequence.  I think you'd be more likely to spot those guys at a Star Trek convention than a gang conclave.
