I just watched the deleted beginning of the movie and when ajax says 'It'll just slow us down.' He sounds irish. Am I hearing things or am I right?

He's defintiely not Irish.  He was born in Boston.  But I can hear what you're talking about.  He does that Irish thing where his pitch rises at the end of the sentence.

It may sound that way to some of us, but I think that he was just really trying to exaggerate and get a really harsh Brooklyn/NY accent to it.
I get the same feeling when he mimics one of the workers at CI that he visited with to get some background feel into his portrayal of Ajax.

Isn't there a semi-large Irish population in Boston though? Regardless of weather he is or isn't (though I doubt it) I agree that it sounds a bit Irish but I don't know so much about New York accents so I guess that's why :D

There is a big Irish-American population in Boston, but a Boston accent sounds nothing like an Irish one.  I think it was just the way Remar decided to say it on that particular take.

As for Remar's Bostonian origins, when he says his famous "popsicle" line, one can certainly detect the distinctive Boston dialect.
