What do you think of the Deleted Beginning Scene ?
Firstly, thanks to this site, finally got to see this scene.
I can see why it was deleted, the bit with Cleon's girlfriend was painful. I did like the bit where Cleon chooses his warriors and why they are included. Also shows why Ajax and the other black guy are the better fighters, they were chosen as muscle.
Didn't like the bit with the Warriors walking towards their adventure, a bit tacky

the other black guy's name is "cochise" and the beginning scenes should have most definately stayed!! it gives you info on the story you don't get otherwise.Peterp wrote:Firstly, thanks to this site, finally got to see this scene.

Yes, I enjoyed getting "the info" too--plus, if you have the book, it makes it easier to line up the characters in relation to who is supposedly who because there are some major differences(7 members go in the book-9 in the movie) plus no names relate. So I enjoyed being able to understand things alittle better--I too wish they would have at least let the gang part opening in!! The girl--?? didn't matter one way or the other.
the other deleted scene I would have liked them to leave in was the Swan/Ajax discussion when Ajax tells Swan about his gut reaction to going--it gives better definition to both their characters and their own reactions to each other. I enjoyed that a lot.

Well, I think it would have been cool to see the deleted scenes had they put them on the DVD...hopefully, a new DVD with those scenes will be released sometime soon. I saw both versions on TV, and I feel the deleted scenes were good in terms of storyline and character introduction...but since most of the action took place at night...the daylight deleted scenes may've been anti-climatic for the big finish...the big finish is the only scene where daylight is visible, and you get a sigh of relief that it is almost over for the Warriors at the end, they have come full circle..they survived the armies of the night..and now they are back home, on the beach, daylight, with just one more "bop" to go..so I guess I like both versions about the same...but still would not mind the deleted scenes.

The only part of the deleted scenes that I think was really necessary was the part where Cleon assigns "roles" for each of the selected Warriors. IMHO, they could have done that scene at night on the Coney Island platform like they did in the theatrical release right after the Wonder Wheel scene. That way the character development would have been a bit better for the first time and/or casual viewer. It wasn't necessary, but it would have been cool nonetheless. From there they could have done a nice clean segway into the theatrical release...
The whole part with the girlfriend was completely unnecessary...

I think the beginning scene should be included. THe movie starting in the afternoon makes the Warriors journey seem much longer. They started in their journey in the daytime and they didn't get back until daylight. Seems cooler.
We're going in there like everybody else nine guys no weapons
Re: What do you think of the Deleted Beginning Scene ?
Well I prefer the opening we have. The deleted scene makes them look too soft.

Ever since I saw that deleted scene I always enjoyed watching the guys get tasks they're chosen to do and their walk down the boardwalk with what looks like a blazing hot morning sun...I can understand why it wasn't included but I agree that it does make their journey seem longer...its better for us to see them soft in the beginning so then we realize how strong they really are as the movie continues on...yet I don't like how Cleon treats his girlfriend...they must've had a long relationship together and the way it ends between them is really sad...as if he doesn't care whether she leaves or not...but instead of starting out the movie with her walking toward him I see different shots of Coney Island the good - the bad - the ugly...then have the girlfriend (i forgot her name) walk towards Cleon...
I don't understand why the deleted scene wasn't included in the Directors cut?

wouldnt have ruined it, they dont really need that first scene because its daylight kills the night feeling of the movie, and the fact cleon says some of the same things, ajax the warrior wrote: No i dont like the first scene and then that horrible music when they are walking off it is awful so i think the first scene would of ruined the movie so yeah i dont like the first scene

exellent mate,i like that memory bit, cutting to each warrior why they are coming to the meeting i like it. exellent mind you haveScurvy Dog wrote: They could have kept the nighttime feel of the movie by including the deleted scenes as a flashback - wiping to that scene and then back to night, like one of the Warriors is remembering - maybe during the train ride, intercut with the Warriors theme. Then they could have Cleon's last memory be the conversation he had with his girlfriend, and cut back to his beatdown by the Riffs.
That way they wouldn't soften the feel of the night. Maybe a memory like that would enhance the night, by saying "It's daytime again - psyche! You're still at the conclave far away from home."

It doesn't work, anyway is it a same topic link? I remember something about!!!MrVess wrote: http://warriorsmovie.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=415

About Peterp topic, I think the Del.Beg.Scenes are wery cool!!! Anyway IMO W.Hill wanted all the movie during the night... well apart from final scenes!!!
This choice made the film obviously more truthful!!! The Armies of the Night... during the night!!!

Re: What do you think of the Deleted Beginning Scene ?
The only deleted scene I would include in the original movie is the one where Cleon is explaining why did he choose those 8 guys.Other ones should be included as extra material on the 'Director's cut' DVD,I don't think they are too important.

That would've also been a good way to keep the nighttime feeling and not ruin it with the daytime scene...Scurvy Dog wrote: They could have kept the nighttime feel of the movie by including the deleted scenes as a flashback - wiping to that scene and then back to night, like one of the Warriors is remembering - maybe during the train ride, intercut with the Warriors theme. I believe that the only important scene that should not have been cut was the part when Swan finds out that Ajax was caught by the police...that tells us that Swan had some resentment for letting Ajax go...and he knew he had a sort of responsibility toward Ajax's safe being...the end of the deleted scene in the beginning when the both are talking on the platform is/was probably the only time you would see them talking without hating each other or wanting to beat each other
