That's very had to say, but it looks like there was alot of changes going into the script as the movie was progressing.  Snow was only suppose to have one line and he was getting more so maybe they were adjusting the script as the personalities of the characters came through in the scenes.  It never looked like anybody was going to get dumped in the river cause the Furies chase scene made no reference to a river or any body of water nearby.  In other threads there is talk that Vermin was destined to be shot and even the Lizzie escape scene in the movie possibly shows him being shot, it was thanks to Terry Michos' comical performance that Vermin was probably saved from death.

I think even if Waites stayed, they wouldn't have killed off Vermin and Cochise.  The story just began to change as they shot the movie, and I think Hill realized it just helped the movie to keep those characters alive for the Punks scene and the showdown with the Rogues.  It's bad enough Cleon died because the Warriors were framed, but if Vermin and Cochise died, it really would have been a downer.

Its weird on how far arrogance will go! I don't know what happened between those two, but obviously it affected the film.

the movie would have been so bad if fox hadent left the movie-swan getting captured ,vermin dying etc. i would probably not like the warriors if he dident leave fox would have been the second main charecter!!!!!!

from what i heard when i was talking to Craig Baxley (stunt coordinator, Punks leader) on set of a movie (The Sentinel) Tom Waites had a deep disliking for Walter Hill, at first tom didnt show it, but as the movie was progressing, tom didnt like the script, creative differences, thomas wanted too much control over what his character was gonna do in the movie, so walter finally decided i cant have this nobody actor telling me what to do, so he came up with the idea of killing him off. and yes Vermin was scripted to be killed by Lizzies (in my opinion it should have been Rembrandt, he didnt do any fighting and only marked one spot) but anywho, i never heard anything about Cochise dying. plus its a shame Cleon was killed. Dorsey Wright was perfect for that role, i wish i was either rembrandt or fox who would have got axed. oh and this may sound crazy, but it kinda made the movie better that Ajax got arrested. if he was around for the Punks and Rouges and Riffs scene on the end, he would have done something stupid like try to fight Masai or something. or it would have been to easy to fight off the Punks. so it was a good idea to rid Ajax

Karma Given You've summed it up nicely.  It's funny how Vermin saved his own life by being funny.  And you know, there are so many turns in the road before you get to what we know of as our favorite movie.  For example, Robert Deniro is one of my favorites, but I am glad he's not in the Warriors.

Well for one, Cochise was never gonna be killed. However, Vermin was because he was supposed to be shot by that Lizzie. Fox would've made it but Tom Waites wanted to be run over but Walter Hill didn't agree. They both were not getting along so Tom walked out half way throught the film and Walter had no other choice. He then made The Fox get run over and Vermin would dodge the bullet.
