Trip to NYC

Post by Bopper »

I had a post on the General board, but I can't access that now, I was just out to NYC and saw the one and only Wonder Wheel! It was awesome. If anyone else knows of any good Warriors landmark sightings still available please post them. Here are some pics

Does The Wonder Wheel still work? If so, did you go for a ride?

Despite being a lifelong NYC resident, I only actually went on The Wonderwheel (and The Cyclone no less) for the first times this past summer. Ferris wheels are scary to me, and The Wonderwheel is scarier because if has the cars that run on the "inside track" which makes it especially scary for a ferris wheel!

But since you were in Coney, did you check out the incredibly cool Warriors painted mural along the Boardwalk? If you head straight to the Boardwalk from the Stillwell station, you turn to the right and it's on your right side. BTW the Stillwell subway station looks amazing, they just renovated it the past few years.

Son of a! I missed the mural! That sucks! The weather was really crappy when I went, Dec 04. It is on the list for when I get out next time.

Coney didn't seem very dangerous. We walked around quite a bit and had lunch, seemed really cool. Yankee stadium in the Bronx seemed dangerous.

Does anyone have any picures of the mural?

Please post if they do or email one to me and I will post

Coney gets dangerous as the night comes long, it's funny because during the day, you're right it isn't as bad as the rep it has, but come night time, the rep that it has gotten worse over the past number of years is true and common sense is the order of the day.

The area in The Bronx near Yankee Stadium yeah really isn't the greatest, as always common sense when walking around there is the best thing.

There is a pic of the Warriors mural on one of the other Warriors websites but I can't find it. However, this guy has this pic of him in front of it from his website...

..now I must say I am NOT the guy in this little pic! But I *do* intend to go down there and take my own pic of me in front of this too-cool mural.

Don't go until spring. I was there a few weekends ago and it is blocked off now by chain link fence.

Sunday morning/afternoon is a good time to go, not dangerous at all. Of course like you said common sense is best and it's probably a good idea not to go alone.

back in 1980 my friend and i rode the wonder wheel. it was really exciting that day because a huge thunderstorm rolled in fairly quickly off the water. by the time they got us off the ride, we had been sitting up there in a metal car, rolling back and forth with lightening flashing all around us for about 15 min. needless to say we were s****** ourselves!! 8-[

There a lot of places in NYC that aren't great areas at night. Anyone from NYC knows most these places. Besides Coney, East New York is a very bad place to be at night and harlem isn't a great place either. Also most places in the city are dangerous when all the stores are closed.
We're going in there like everybody else nine guys no weapons

I spoke to Charlotte who owns the site with the warriors mural photo, and she sent me a slightly larger version, posted below.

None that I know of are very good and at night CI isn't the safest. Best bet is stay in Manhattan and take the subway over.
