Why Fox left!

Post by The Fox »

Did anyone know why Fox left?

This is what Micheal Beck said at a recent Warriors reunion in Texas. Coshise and Mercy also attended and did a question from the audience part!

"Waites left because Mercy was meant to end up with Fox and when the crew saw the chemistry between her and Beck they changed they storey. Swan was originally going to be cought by a homosexual gang!

I kid you not this is what was said by Micheal Beck! So,please write insults to Micheal Beck not myself!!!!

Honest!!! :D

In the beginning of the film when the characters are introduced, we see all the Warriors except Fox, I wonder if this part of the film was done after he left, or Fox's part was just edited. I think it was just cut out.

Yeah, i can dig that. It's obvious that Fox has a thing for Mercy at first. They even run holding hands. Swan dislikes her and he shows it.
As for the homosexual bit, well i think Swan may as well be a gay icon in their community...all muscles and posing...hehehe

Wow if Swan would have got caught it would have really sucked. I never liked Fox that much anyway so i'm happy the story happened the way it did.

SHIT! I don't know what the fucking writers had in mind, but I am glad they did not go for the original. Now, there's nothing fucking gay about Swan. I wonder what would had happened to him being caught by a gay gang though, I bet Ajax would had say, "He just went faggot, so guys, I am taking over. I am Warlord!
"This is what we fought all night to get back to?"

JaimePike--I apologise for below-You were right to pass on the information , even if it would have turned out to be a rumor.-I did find the interview where it is stated about the posting about Swan being captured!!! that being said--the reason they didn't go that way, was because it was 1979--and the studio wouldn't back such a move!! BUT WATCHING HIM ESCAPE, MAY HAVE BEEN WORTH IT-omg did I say that!!yikes!!!!

Can you direct me to the interview where he said anything like that??

I have several recent interviews, and several OLD interviews by Michael Beck, including one in Texas at the Alamo Drafthouse where they had a big screening of The Warriors for its 25 anniversary.

First thing you have to remember--is in 1979---there wasn't anything that came out of Sol's book with any such references to any homosexuality---and there is no way the writers would have put something like that in it---They wouldn't have made ratings for general distribution in the US with that--unless just like they did with Ajax--if he got caught by any rival gang--you would just NEVER see him again. ANd even if the screenwriters had changed the concepts that much to include anything like that---The whole concept of "gay " lifestyles were just barely coming out at that time---I mean Midnight Cowboy caused a scandle-so I just don't see them incorporating any concepts like that in a movie about "teen-age" gangs.
Sorry, but unless I could actually really read that --I would NOT believe it--There really isn't any place for that whole mentality within the context of the movie--the closest they come is The Lizzies.

If you PM me with the directions, and I actually can see it--I'll come back and recant this--but every interview I have ever read from MB hasn't had anything remotely touching any thing like it.

I think Fox disappeared and ended up killed in the movie because I seem to remember some rumblings about creative differences !! Common occurance to characters who have too many of their own ideas. But some of the stills I have, and candid pictures say he was there and paying attention---and lets face it---he lasted longer than Cleon.

No one is asking you to believe it I just tell people what i hear and all who are part of the form do. The forum is for discussion!

I heard this from people who actually attended The Alamo screening through another Forum.

Can't prove it unless you go to the links section and one of the 5 star sites and read thourh all the forums.

How about you linking us to all these interviews you mention? That would be cool.

I have a feeling Beck may have been kidding around with the homosexual gang part lol.

I wonder if there may have been a small rivalry for Mercy between Swan and The Fox originally written in? Remember when they went into that first subway train after the Orphans incident and Swan sorta "grabs" Mercy as she ran into the train. Interesting!

Why are there no Warriors reunion happenings in the NYC area??? :)

Hey you're only the messenger lol, thanks for the cool info incidentally!

Maybe Beck made that joke because of the way Swan is dressed in the flick, I can see how the character would have homosexual fans. Kind of like I saw a funny thing in some magazine recently, I forget which one, that had a picture of the metal group Manowar in their 80's heyday, and they made a joke like damn if they don't look like a homosexual group, all their loincloths and everything!

Thank you for the link, I joined and will read up-always like to be "in the know" so to speak. JP-I meant it as a discussion--actually and in honesty--if I agree with what the topic is, I ususally say so, and if I can't see it and disagree--that is my opinion and just the way I post, wasn't looking for an arguement either- but disagreement is as much a part of healthy discussions as agreement is--maybe more, as long as every one respects others opinions and does not use it as a personal attack form and sticks to the subject.

I tend to agree with SFNYC--IF Michael said anything to that effect--he was probably joking big time--and was just responding to the mood of the question. As we all know that Swan wasn't bent that way--in the book, or movie or off set!!! LOL
Here are a couple links I hope they work that are two seperate interviews with Michael Beck both within the last 1 1/2 years.

http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/d ... ture4.html

http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/ ... andy_x.htm

AND just in case someone is interested-there is a brand new magazine out called LOOK--and it is FIRST TIME on shelves right now at Barnes and Noble and other major magazine venders as of today March 13th --and this first edition of it has a rather large (from what I understand) CURRENT interview with Michael Beck aka SWAN--and it is "26 Years after The Warriors"

I haven't seen the article or pictures yet--but I have a couple copies reserved and would post up highlights from it if anyone is interested--I don't have a scanner-so am handicapped in that respect.

I always got the feeling that though Swan wasn't really interested into Mercy personally per say---like when he grabbed her in the subway---I think he was mostly male posturing because he was the "acting" leader--so it was not only his "duty" but his right to "take control" of the situations, esp. one with a questionable safety factor--like she was in the context of the whole movie. they didn't know exactly what she would bring to their predicament-and someone needed to be in charge, and keeping track.

And it is just my own thoughts-but I always thought that IF Fox would have stayed alive, he and Mercy would have "been" together--simply because Swan wouldn't have fought over her with him, and Fox wanted her more than the others. When Fox got grabbed/killed Swan took over more or less taking care of her simply cause she was still there and as leader--there wasn't anyone else that was going to take care of her, that SHE was going to tolerate. But that is just my own thoughts based on my own research into gang hierachy and human nature.
