I remember a freind of mine who lives in a very rough area of london talking about this film for hours when I was about 12 years old.I had built up such an idea of what the film was like in my head.And when I saw it in Brixton (gangland area) where my freind lived it blew me away.The feeling it gave me was a real sense of what I was looking for.
share your memorys of how you felt when you first saw it.
weird question i know.

First I watched it I remember my brother borrowed the VHS off a friend because he hadn't saw it in a long time and couldn't find it anywere. I think it was in 1998. I remember looking at the cover thinking that the movie would be really scary. Then my brother invited me to watch the movie on his TV, I felt scared thinking it was a horror/thriller type of movie but I didn't let my fear show so I agreed to watch it. When the Wonderwheel came up with the spooky music I felt a bit uneasy, but then I settled in and laughed at whatever Ajax had to say. After a while I started to love every minute of the movie and when the movie finished I was a bit pissed off because the movie had finished and I was wanting more. The next day and the days after I couldn't stop thinking about the movie and since then I have watched the movie everytime I have had the opportunity to.

I first saw this movie at my friend's house. I remember we were really bored and he asked if I wanted to watch a movie. He wanted to show me one of his favs so I watched it. I was lucky enough to see the TV version and see the extra scenes. Since then I've loved this movie.

It made me feel like wasting some heads....

This movie makes me feel like going out and joining a gang, haha.

On a serious note though, my Uncle said in California when the movie came out a lot of theatres had to stop showing it because it was bringing a lot of real life gangsters to the threatres, and they would seriously throw down and chunk.....

Honestly? It made me scared to go back into NYC again. I grew up in the suburbs of New York and knew the city quite well by the time I saw the film at age 11. I thought to myself "my god, is it really that bad in new york?" Much the same effect Jaws had on my desire to run into the ocean again.

When i saw it i felt. joy. eleation. jubalii. and many other words for happyness. i get the same feeling from "dogsoilders" and " the secret of nimh" ^^



and it made me want to take up a spray paint can and be a writer for a gang

i felt good knowing that this film is a masterpiece and a classic.

i first saw this when i was like 14/15 1994ish with a friend drunk and watching like tnt or something silly. this movie added to my giddiness then and always has the same mood altering effects every time i watch it. luckily ive gotten my husband equally addicted to this movie. he gets a high similar to when watching "hitman" or other freddie williams gems. sometimes we let our warriors habit get the better of us spending $ on dolls,dvds, posters....and we have both been known to randomly quote and re-enact parts of the film. it's so good to be here surrounded by others with the same (and sometimes worse) lifestyle.

this film can make you want to go out and totally re enact the movie but the other side of you is saying theres not a chance in hell of you getting away with anything any of those guys got up too.

i have very mixed feelings when i watch and think about the warriors.

to start i will mention that gang life is much worse than portrayed in the warriors so i would never ever want tobe in their position or live their life.

im sure those who have the experience would agree.

anyway.

i love the film but get a little depressed when thinking about the failing of the welfare state and how politics can never totally solve such deprivation as some people 'dont want to help themselves' if you know what i mean.

despite this, the main positive that i extract from the film in relation to the warriors life is the strong 'brotherhood' present.

i love the notion of 'brotherhood' and like being part of large social networks, hence...im like a wolf in a wolfpack.
i used to think about joining the army for this reason...strong brotherhood.

the other main positive i feel is the 'looking up to your elders' syndrome.

you remember at school...how cool was it to be mates with the guys a few years senior. im 22 so but when i watched the film for the first time i would have been like 12, so the other warriors are at the age where they would be like a father figure type. it would be quite cool being the rembrant/junior (book) looking up to the others.

these are two things that i like about the warriors. 8)

This movie was so tense and physical that when I first saw it, it made me want to go outside and start beating the crap out of the first guy I saw.

I knew that the movie was going to be great. I personally loved every aspect of it! 

I watched it again the other day and one of the things that struck me is how ALIVE the film makes you feel when you watch it.  It's like on some level you know these kids come from s***ty households and are probably really troubled and going nowhere, but despite that, as you watch them come together, find their courage, and make their way home, they're absolutely beautiful for that one moment in time.  It's kind've like Mercy says, "I want something NOW," because she knows where the future is headed.

I think there's something beautiful in that, maybe it's an allusion to childhood, those "pure" moments that will never come again as life becomes progressively more complex and ugly, but those memories nonetheless can never be tainted.

I think the COLORS in the film also have a huge impact.  Has anyone on this board talked about the palette for the film, the cinematography?  It's amazing, and you can tell Hill and the Director of Cinematography really planned their shots carefully.  It makes everything seem larger than life, it makes the night seem gorgeous and alive.

its exactly what a film should be. u care about the characters and stuff like when Ajax gets arrested u feel sorrow and its the same with Cleon and The Fox dying, u feel great when Luther gets whats comin to him (still luv luther for some reason, i guess u could say he is a loveable rogue... nope not funny). To be honest i dont really think it merits its 18 badge its sort of a family film. i think all this gang warfare thing is a load of crap but for sum reason i dont find that with the warriors
