From Paramount U.K. REGION 2 is the SAME AS REGION 1

Martin Jeeves posted this on the Home Theater Forum thread:
For those interested. I have heard back from Paramount / UIP in the U.K. and they informed me that the Region 2 UK release will be exactly the same as the Region 1 release i.e. NO commentary, NO deleted scenes, NO photo gallery. The two releases will be identical except the coverart and the fact that the Region 1 is NTSC and the Region 2 is PAL.

That is straight from Paramount UIP Home Video in the U.K.
Hope that clears up any confusion.

Well, on one hand at least we now know that we here in R1 are not getting screwed compared to R2 but on the other hand this set is SERIOUSLY not an "ultimate collector's edition". NO deleted scenes?? C'MON!!!!!!

No deleted scenes and no commentary..what a joke. I said it before..I still hope Criterion someday gets the rights and puts out a true "collector's edition".

Not likely anytime soon...or anytime at all, for that matter. Paramount is not about to license out one of their most popular and ever-more profitable (video game, remake, etc.) catalog titles to a second party. No harm in dreaming though. :)

I don't know what he's talking about. I've not only had an e-mail confirming a commentary and extra scenes from Paramount UK but I've spoken to one of their reps on the phone and this was all confirmed. I've been given a new contact so I'll phone them tomorrow if I get time and see what they can confirm. I just think that Paramount UK are more organised. We'll see!!

A couple more reviews have surfaced and in the new "intro." Hill says that he doesn't do commentaries and he prefers the films to speak for themselves so unless they have a different intro. for the R2 disc, it wouldn't make sense to have a commentary. Others have also stated that Hill NEVER does them so I think we're out of luck.

sigh

i just knew it - i had a strong feeling that the UK version will be the same as the USA version. the UK DVD for director commentary is actually the introduction for the US DVD.

and i am assuming they don't carry the photo gallery too?

Sad to say DVDtimes.co.uk confirms that the two editions are the same and includes menus. Guess I will cancel my R2 and buy the cheaper R1 after all.

Man, this sucks!!

I saw the review of the region 1 and thought, what a waste of time, nothing new on there. Then I saw the review for the Region 2 on play.com and got real excited cause they listed loads of extras.

Now its back to reality, no decent extras. :(

1 Question. Where did play.com get that review with all the extras, somebody must have written it, it all looks legit, unless they got somebody that just makes this stuff up?

DVD in trouble?

Member when DVD's first came out? and the companies thought that "Widescreen" format and "also in Spanish and French" was an extra? Well thats the way Paramount's home video dept. thinks. This Warriors latest news is a little disappointing, but i will feel extremely lucky to get even two extras from the disc. "Charmed" took forever to come out on DVD and my wife figured that the long wait was because of Shannon Doherty's cranky att. But still it came out with NO extras. Why is it that Paramount's home vid dept is skimping on all the things fans are buying DVD's for in the first place? A lot of Old TV shows especially are being rushed out to cash in on the craze we all have for nostalgia before we come to our senses and just go back to taping stuff of the telly. It's too bad Walter Hill has that attitude he has about commentaries. The Coen brothers likewise dont doo commentaries. 48 Hours could use a special edition. But that's for the "48 hours" website

Well War Chief has told us from his contact at Paramount what will be on the u.k dvd. I'm gonna take his word and hope for the best [-o<

Why would Paramount go to the trouble to tell us one thing and then do another?
