Should Cleon have died so early?

What do you think, he is one of my favourite characters, yet you only see him for the first 15 minutes. Its a shame such a great character was killed off so soon, you just know he would have kicked some a** later in the film, and it would have been great to see him in some of the later scenes.

The flip side to it is that killing off such a strong character early, who was also physically tuff and the leader, emphasises that vulnerability of the others, which in some ways makes the film more exciting. Somebody else getting killed early wouldnt have had the same impact.

Would do you think?

I think he was killed, in fact I am sure it was confirmed on this site in the facts page.

If you think about it, if Cleon was left alive, he would have been interegated by Masai, and we surely would have seen it.

Also when Cleon kicked off and took out a couple of The Rogues (one of my favourite parts), nobody was thinking straight, The Riffs just steamed into him and didnt think about what info they could get, it was chaos at the time.

Heey

I remember watching the movie for the first time and being gutted that Cleon was wiped out so early,it was so unexpected. But as a few people picked up on it lead the way for the plot.
Also remember during my school days a phase kids went through was jumping other poor kids and elbowing them in the back shoating`Riffs` Nasty!

Yeah i agree that the excitement of the film was boosted when cleon was killed and i seriously doubt he would have survived that beating he recieved

As SHM has already pointed out Masai gave out the orders much later.

Anybody questioning whether Cleon died or not should just replay the scene and listen out for the various cry's of "kill him". I believe this to be a bit of a clue as to whether Cleon was kept alive or has left this mortal coil.

He didn't just shuffle off this mortal coil, he tumbled face first off of it.

no way.i understand that if he didnt the acting abilities of michael beck wouldnt have been fully portrayed.although if all went to plan we would have seen if tom waites would have been able to carry the ball in the leading role.i must admit though dorsey wright as cleon should have remained in the part for longer to see if he would have kept his head after cyrus was shot and remained the cool headed and tight lipped cleon. ;)

It would be nice to have an alternate version of the film where Cleon survives, just to see him in action in the later fighting scenes. The character had a real screen presense.

Wishful thinking!!

Yea i agree,i think everyone who loves the film were dissapointed when they first seen it and he gets wasted so early. He must of had a very strong screen persona for this.
Also think he looks better with the Lawrance of Arabia type headwear he wears in the film,in the tv version without it at the begginning it kinda takes the edge off him a bit.

That is so true, what makes the character look cool is the camoflauge head gear, he didnt look nearly as cool without it.

That was the good thing about The Warriors, although they wore the same vest they all had their own style.
