i've been to NYC several times. i've seen a lot of the sights---took subway out to CI, rode the wonder wheel, went in the 72 st station, central park, riverside park, stanton island ferry, times square for new years eve, ground zero, been to studio 54 and zenon, been to CBGB, saw 'barnum' on broadway, ice skating at rockefeller plaza, shopping in chinatown, walked around soho, greenwich village and the bowery, checked out the docks, saw david letterman show live when he had his daytime tv prg. i'm sure there are probably a hundred more things i've seen/done there!! i must say, NY is my favorite city in the whole country!!! ;) :)

Lots of police about especially outside of Nathans

I think this time of year it's pretty busy. It's worth th trip just to see it. Seeing the Wonder Wheel in person and walking down the Bowery was a buzz :D :D

I made a special trip to Coney when I was there. It was snowing and I have some great pictures.

I also went to Union Square. Theres a huge Virgin Megastore there so I could kill two birds with one stone.

I didn't see CBGBs though. Hopefully (fingers crossed) it will still be there when I next go to NYC. If its a Starbucks I'll puke...

I am in NYC in 1 month from now, whats CBGBs? Also what is the story with that arcade in Union Square? Is that real? I looked around Union back in December 04 and couldn't find anything, and I didn't see one bathroom in any of the subway stations in Manhattan...

I wish we could form enough of a group to have a convention or just a get together out in NYC and do some touring of the sites, maybe meet one of the actors. Hook it up Webmaster!

CBGBs is a rock club in the Bowery. Its heyday was in the mid to late 70s when they hosted the cream of the NYC punk scene. Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Television, The Ramones and many others played there. Another worthy club like CBGBs was Maxs Kansas City.

Anyway, due to the massive rise in rents in the area (the Bowery is being modernised) and the fact that CBGBs owner Hilly Kristal is already behing in his repayments this legendary club might close. They were recently given an extension in court... Lots of musicians and celebrities are organising benefits etc to save the club.

Apparently if it closes it will become a Starbucks

I personally hope they shut that hole CBGB's down for good. I've played there a bunch of times in various bands so I speak from experience. Everyone involved with the place is scum - they've had all thugs working there forever, and behind the bar they're freaking rude as hell. The place hasn't been cleaned in ages, not don't get me wrong, I love "dives" but when a dive tries way too hard to stay a dive, it sucks (like how can the world's legendary club not have faucets that work in the restroom?).

Any old schooler will tell you that the place started to suck in 1978 and never was good again. It became mainstream and "The place to be" and you can find people like Billy Joel and Olivia Newton John hanging out there by then. real punk right? Then after that, hardcore took the place over.

The only reason I liked to play there from time to time was because The Ramones played on the same stage, and the sound system is great. But the place sucks. Even The Ramones, who Hilly Krystal, the owner, keeps mentioning when discussing the place, for a long tiem have wanted nothing to do with the place. In various rallys and such, Marky Ramone is no where to be found, and Joey Ramone used to have his "Joey Ramone presents" nights at the Continental down the block, a place infinitely cooler than CB's.

And the owner, Hilly, still thinks it is 1977 and everyone thinks he's a rock God. After Joey died, at the first "Joey Ramone Birthday Bash" at the Hammerstein Ballroom (with Blondie, The Damned and Cheap Trick) Hilly was a guest speaker, and 3000 fans couldn't give one damn what he had to say, instead totally drowning him out with their own conversations waiting for him to get off the stage for the next band.

Good-freaking-bye CBGB's, don't let the door hit ya on the way out.
