Luther's Change of Clothes

THis has been bugging me for since I first watched the film. Why does Luther put a sweater on halfway through the film? Could it be a simple reason like it was just getting a little chilly or was it something deeper?

What are your views?

Good question but in my own personal opinion i would just think its the cold of night that gets Luther getting pulling his hoodie on.Rolling around in the early hours in that hurst vehicle,it must of bean cold, lol.

Yeah, and he was the guilty (and he knew to be). I mean, he felt colder than others guys. If you know waht I mean.
Nobody else in the Movie put "something" on.
Anyway, was it really cold that night (for the Actors) in New York, or is it maybe just a Symbolic Meaning?

Haha yeah that would make sense.. Luther, the coldest character in the movie!

No wonder he tossed on that sweater

Well, at this point I'd ask War Chief: "Why don't you ask David Patrick Kelly-Luther about this Point?" Yeah, Why Not.
Thanks in advance. :D :D :D 8)

Maybe he wanted to change his look in case he was seen

Did you mean: in case Other Gang Members had seen him?
In this case, it could be a good theory... anyway, he should have changed his clothes just after The Meeting.

Or did you mean The Police?

Yes, I agree. It is a good theory.
It would be smart to stay away from cops and gangs on a night like that

... even if, to stay away from Cops, I mean to be really sure... well, they should have changed the Car... 8)

Two extra theories to add:

Maybe Luther thought it would be easier to carry the gun in the hoodies kangaroo pocket than it would being in his vest pocket.  He might even feel safer carrying it that way as it makes the gun point in a different direction and not at his thigh/foot.

Its possible that while watching the daily's (production footage), Walter Hill may have thought that the headband and sheriff badge isnt enough and the luther charecter needs to stand out more from the rest of the gang for when he's on screen.

NYC at night in the summer...  even long after the sun sets the air is still hot and thick as if it were still day time. This is in most cases, but it did rain that night and things probably cooled down.  Luther probably slapped on his sweatshirt because of that and probably also wanted a better way to conceal his piece.

To change his appearance....    don't think that would work.  Even if he were to change from gym shorts and T-shirt to a $700 suit, his hair and crazy face would still give him away.  That would have easily been the 1st thing people would notice about him.

Thanks for the opinions guys! Didn't think there would be many replies.

I like your theory Ninth Delegate. That could also be very true. Without all his extra features Luther would look pretty much like his other gang members.

Maybe Hill thought that Luther needed to be doing something while delivering his lines.
