What if Mercedes wasn't so inviting?

Not that you are, but it's important for us fans to not allow our love for Ajax to cloud our judgment when it comes to his actions.

Was it entrapment? That's a tough one...

Black's Law Dictionary defines entrapment as, "the act of officers or agents of the government in inducing a person to commit a crime not contemplated by him, for the purpose of instituting a criminal prosecution against him."

As mentioned by others, Ajax circled back to Mercedes just after making some rather cryptic comments. It was obvious based on those two things alone that his subsequent actions were "contemplated". In addition, earlier in the movie all Ajax talks about it "wasting a few heads" and "laying down some strange wool" and the like. IMHO, it's quite obvious that Ajax knew what he was doing and therefore deserved the reprocussions of his actions...

Don't get me wrong, that scene irritates me to no end. First and foremost, because we lose Ajax. Secondly, we lose Ajax to something that he could have gotten elsewhere. It wasn't like he got jumped and killed or something less avoidable. Lastly, I must admit that Mercedes looked pretty darn inviting on that bench, and that coupled with some of the words out of her mouth could just have made a number of us males fall for her (not as rough as Ajax, but you get my point).

Also, one of the myths of that scene is that she was there to bust gang members. I think that's 100% incorrect. While I understand that it's mentioned in the film about how the "cops are trying to rack-up ever gang member in this city", let's all remember that it's not against the law to be in a gang and never has been. Mercedes was there for one thing and one thing only - to trap sexual preditors. That was a huge problem in big city parks at that time in the USA. There were a number of films based on that problem. Having said that and like someone else mentioned, it would have been interesting to see what Mercedes would have done if Ajax was a polite little boy and played by the rules and turned out to be a preditor... :?:

You need a little help ore something lady" she said to get lost. Would he have attacked her or just told her to go fly a kite and caught up with the guys? I don't think he would have attacked her.
No, I don't think Ajax would had attacked her. I do regret the fact that we loose such great character so early in the film. Cowboy would've been a better choice.

I disagree, Latem. It would have been totally out of character for Cowboy to disregard Swan and approach the woman. Unfortunalty Ajax is the only one who would have done this.
