Youth Workers

Post by goin_CRAZY »

Fox mentions them, and in a deleted scene so does Cyrus. So does anyone know the real deal behind this because this really gets on my nerves everytime I hear it because I have no idea what they're talking about.

Youth worker is just another term for social worker.  The state assigns them to families with troubled kids.

and in the 50s and early 60s the  court system also assigned Youth workers aka social workers to some gangs themselves, and members who were ordered to report in to them, very similar to parole officers.  To keep track of what was going on, and they also worked through the youth detention system.
then the system got so overclogged, and the gang system changed somewhat so the gang workers were dropped, and only those in trouble or in the family system ended up with social workers.

I had a youth worker last year. Im not sure why exactly but my school assigned them to about 15 of the students. We never really did anything except go there and sign a paper. If you didnt sign it once a week you got suspended. I still havent figured out what they were trying to acomplish with that :?

They pulled this same kind of crap in my neighbourhood, but they assigned them to kids who actually needed guidance. Of course, it didn't do anything and they ended the program pretty fast. I never had to go see them, but I did see one walk into a locker once, that was pretty funny.

Youth workers are a larger part of the story in the book. The Riffs equivalent in the book got there club house/HQ from thanks to the work of their youth worker. Also, I think The Warriors were going to call their youth worker to get them out of The Bronx once the meeting went bad.

Hey, isn't the guy who played Apache a work with youth these days?

I can see why Walter Hill had to not mention the Youth Worker thing.  If the Youth Worker managed to give them a ride home, then no movie and the Hollywood studio would not have allowed the Youth Worker to be shown as ineffective, which is also why I think that the Cyrus's speech is shortened in the Director's Cut too.

You know, I always found it amazing how,a youth worker are one of the rare ones to actually get close to gangs. It shows you how some of the gangs actually do have hearts, as long as you respect their wishes.  Its like when a psychic can be the only ones who communicate with the dead.  A youth worker I believe is a true human being, who can connect with them, but like I said you have to watch your place.
