Rubble Kings

Post by Suburban Warlord »

Hey Boppers,

I just watched this documentary for the second time. It's pretty superb. It has tons of footage and interviews from
the early 70's in The Bronx - detailing the urban decay and gang infested streets in the city at that time.

It is mainly from the black and Puerto Rican perspective of the people who lived in the South Bronx at that time, but also
talks briefly about the crazy, white gangs in the North Bronx as well.

This $hit is real, but if you pay attention, you can see the story of Cyrus and the conclave and the nine delegates...

http://www.netflix.com/watch/80053919?t ... de-1095693

At about 41:50 ... "And when we got down to the bottom of the stairs, there was only about 9 of us."

Cyrus, loosely = Cornell "Black Benji" Benjamin.

It's a great commentary on the times as well... Vietnam, urban decay, the Black Power movement and the hope for revolution.

Opening caption...

"In 1979, a cult classic film called "The Warriors" shook the world with it's depiction of New York City as a gang infested concrete jungle."

"Nine years earlier, the real story was FAR WORSE."

Make no mistake, this is not a documentary about The Warriors. You should most definitely watch this though, if you want to see the
the reality and lore that The Warriors was born out of.

Oh, and I also learned that a "Warlord" is like a top field commander. He still has The President and The Vice President above him.

Just watched this as well. Did you notice that one of the DUKES jackets had a warbird that was very similar to the WARRIORS warbird? While the outfits were "over the top" in the film, they were not that far off from the outfits of the real NYC gangs of the time.

What I saw in the documentary definitely had a "The Warriors" look to it. As they said in the doc,
the inner-city gangs were loosely adopting the look of contemporary biker gangs like the Hell's
Angels, whilst obviously incorporating their own ethnic flair. Hence jackets and vests with patches and rockers.

I saw nothing like Hi-Hats or Baseball Furies of course. In my opinion, The Warriors themselves had the most
authentic or realistic looking gang attire in the movie. I get it though. They were like the every man's gang,
battling their way home through a maze of nightmarish and slightly futuristic encounters. Obviously the film
took some artistic license when they created all of their gangs and uniforms!
