In the novel....

No-one? I thought this was an interesting question.

'Hector' is obviously the equivalent of 'Swan', so the long wavy blond hair was interesting, especially as the common view - even mentioned by the author himself! - seems to be the Warriors of the novel were an all black outfit.

Comic style scenes in directors cut

I echo the comments here, perhaps not as bad as I'd feared but unnecessary, and the Furies appearance and the end sequence were the most unwelcome comic book inserts.

Also, what was the big deal about the film being "set in the future" which Walter Hill seemed to think was so important to stress?

In the novel....

I'm confused as Sol Yurick mentions in his (retrosepctive) introduction that The Warriors (or Coney Island Dominators as they were termed in the novel) were black. I'm sure this was also mentioned in the new DVD special features (the DVD review mag actually says the Warriors were "Native Americans" ...

Whose your favorite warrior??? Furie??? y?

My favourite Warrior is Swan because he is the coolest but Ajax has all the best lines!

Do you like the Directors Cut?

Watched The Ultimate Director's Cut - gorgeous picture quality but as most agree, the comic book insertions were unnecessary and just served to be heavy handed. The Greek introduction was pretty cheesy too. Worts of all was the end sequence where the long walk into the sunset was cut almost before i...

The Warriors Movie Remake...

So this new film is not a more faithful adaptation of the Sol Yurick novel?

Will it be Swan or Hector? Cyrus or Ismael? etc etc.

Do you like the Directors Cut?

Having watched the special features last night I'm settling down later tonight to watch the film (I did have a peak though!)

How depressing that the original DVD is withdrawn - this is like George Lucas and Star Wars where the original versions are now (and forever will be apparently) unavailable.

A Question for all of you in the NYC..

I had been thinking about this too. Living in the UK I only know The Bronx by repute. Is it really a very tough area? For example, would a tourist be ill-advised to venture there? I looked up the internet to see how it was described and really there was nothing to reinforce the usual reputation. Asi...

Dave, yes the Criterion R1 edition of The Man Who Fell to Earth will be a different (superior) transfer to that used for the standard R2 release.

Mmm - you've got me thinking now...I might go for the R2 of The Warriors Director's Cut after all! :D

Yes, in Scotland Dave.

I have heard this quite often but to be honest I've never noticed any real difference and have a number of R1 discs with terrific picture quality (Criterion's new The Man Who Fell to Earth R1 easily outsrips the standard R2 DVD for pic quality)

Magazines

I got the DVD Review mag. Interesting how very little is made of the comic strip additions.

Also, I noted that Thomas G Waites is described as "the most successful cast member" - I'd have thought that would have been James Remar, followed by David Patrick Kelly?

So both R1 and R2 versions are definitely identical then? Just comes down to which cover art you prefer (if you have a mult-regional player) - I am in the minority of liking the R1 design better so I think I'll go with that )(also a few pounds cheaper).

The Warriors - reappraised?

Hard Times is availble on DVD, both R1 and R2.

Pretty basic DVDs but let's hope any future SE or Director's Cut doesn't go the tweaking route as has happened with The Warriors!

USA Region 1 DVD Released today - Post Comments here!

Interesting comments Dave. Maybe they should have included both versions of the film and then the "comic book" version could have been regarded as a curio only?
