Masai said the riffs were patrolling the area and looking for the warriors.  their turf in gramercy park which is around 21st street and park ave...BUT i find it odd that the riffs werent camped out at union square, which was a mere 6 blocks away (14th street and park ave.) also it doesnt make sense...
