The Warriors on DVD

You have two choices when it comes to watching The Warriors on DVD. Fans of the movie argue that the theatrical release is better, but the special features on the Ultimate Director's Cut also make it definitely worth buying. The full details of both DVDs are listed below.

Original Theatrical Version

Original Theatrical VersionThe original DVD was released in 2001 and features the unedited theatrical version of the film. The details of the DVD are as follows:

Run Time: 89 minutes (PAL) or 91 minutes (NTSC).
Format: Colour, Closed-captioned, Wide screen.
Special Features: Original theatrical trailer.
Audio: Dolby Digital Mono.

Ultimate Director's Cut

Ultimate Director's CutThe 2005 Ultimate Director's Cut features the re-edited version of the movie. The Region 2 DVD cover uses the original movie artwork whilst the Region 1 DVD uses a new fire design. The details of the DVD are as follows:

Run Time: 90 minutes (PAL) or 93 minutes (NTSC).
Format: Colour.
Special Features: Introduction by Walter Hill about the new version of the film, 4 production featurettes (approx. 60 minutes), original theatrical trailer.
Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround.

Ultimate Director's CutThe "extra scenes" referred to on the case relate to 7 brand new 'cartoon transition scenes' and not deleted scenes. The DVD does not contain a commentary but the four 15 minute featurettes more than make up for that as they go more in to more depth than a commentary ever could. They are:

The Beginning: From novel to screen.
The Battleground: Casting The Warriors.
The Way Home: Making The Warriors.
The Phenomenon: Releasing The Warriors.
